One extended voyage through the Australian Coast is being halted days after the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was stranded by the ship on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but broke off from the party for a rest. The vessel departed without her and came back several hours later after the ship staff realised the woman was not present.

An extensive hunt found her person the subsequent day.

Officials are investigating the tragedy, alongside investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that guests and staff on the vessel were notified that the continuation of the journey had been called off due to the "sad loss and previous mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he further stated that travelers would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also released an revised communication, and said they had "issued a directive to the Commander" preventing any additional guests from getting on the ship.

The official said that they would attend the ship in the Australian city upon its coming back.

Sequence of Incidents

The liner originally sailed from the Australian port on 24 October, and was just two days into the journey at the time of the senior passenger's demise. Lizard Island was the first stop on the journey.

Travelers on the ship - who generally pay tens of thousands of dollars to join the cruise - were ferried there for a day trip with the option of walking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Reaction

The offspring of the elderly passenger said that her family was "shocked and distressed that the vessel left Lizard Island after an scheduled tour without my mum".

In her statement, she portrayed her parent as an "vigorous octogenarian" who was a participant of a bushwalking club.

"According to scant information we have been informed, it appears that there was a breakdown of responsibility and ordinary reasoning," she stated.
