The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Lead to Revitalize Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Follows Lukewarm Response

Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a distinct vision.

Ismailer expressed that the developers is now overhauling the project with a renewed approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

The news mirrors a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the entire content from Ismailer's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and talented developers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that relationship to persist.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s ready to achieve its ambition to our fans.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of the team. Following some time of talks, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having spent the recent years creating and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in greeting him next week. We are all excited to continue witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.

Brinkman previously was employed at major gaming companies in various production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, before that, had assignments at other industry leaders.

Title Details and Vision

The upcoming game was revealed in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, 31st Union portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting evolution on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch states. "Take on the rivals with new abilities, challenges, and tests that change every match. Will you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or aim high, put it on the line, and pray your squad can earn top ranking? The decision is up to you."

Project Ethos has not yet received an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but players can anticipate additional details as production continues.
