Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as important members in the powerful family could assist the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can expect learning which characters will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
